Customer Requirements:
KAPP Engineering was approached by Novatron to design, supply, and commission a PLC-based 180,000 litres per day Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant for Sunrise Dam Goldmine.

Solution:
The control system for the RO Plant comprises of a DL06 Koyo PLC and a C-More 6 inch Monochrome Touch-Screen Operator Interface panel (OIP). The RO Plant has 4 modes of operation (Desalination, Chemical Clean, Prime Service, and Service Mode). In Desalination, Chemical Clean, and Prime Service mode, the operation of the valves, pumps, and auxiliary devices are automatically controlled by the PLC. On the other hand, the Service Mode allows the operator to operate these devices manually during maintenance operations and equipment servicing.

Prime Service Mode is added to allow the operator to feed bore water into the system prior to starting the system in Desalination Mode. This feature removes any air trapped inside the system and at the same time primes all system pumps.

Novatron Australia is pleased with the cost savings that are achieved by the implementation of the OIP, in particular the dramatic reduction in the number of control panel components and the amount of electrical wiring required. The Touch Screen OIP has replaced the many pushbuttons, indicator lamps and switches that were conventionally used by Novatron Australia for all of its previous projects.
