Customer Requirements:
After successful completion of the previous Re-activation Kiln upgrade, KAPP Engineering was approached once more by Anglogold Ashanti to integrate a new standalone fire fighting system into their existing on site fire fighting facilities. The upgrade included the addition of alarm conditions from the standalone system into the PCS and the monitoring and management of two water tanks used to supply water to a sprinkler system in the event of a fire. KAPP Engineers were required to design, program and coordinate the on-site installation and commissioning with Petro Min Engineers.

Solution:
KAPP Engineering designed and commissioned logic to control and monitor two water tanks used to feed the fire facility sprinkler system. This involved controlling when to increase the volume of water stored in the tanks so as to ensure that water is always available to the sprinkler system both during and outside of operation.

A custom page was added to the Citect SCADA system to allow operators to monitor every aspect of the fire fighting system with ease. This includes displaying the status of the following;

• Sprinkler system health
• Water tank levels
• Water pump health
• Alarm conditions

All Allen Bradley PLC 5 and Citect SCADA modifications were made on site with 0% downtime. KAPP Engineering also provided documented code on all modifications made in accordance with quality control procedures.
